The Ocean Museum Begins . . .

faith-ocean

After taking note facts on the angler fish, I have started the backboard for my ocean museum exhibit!

The Banana!

faith-health1

To wrap up our health and fitness unit, I chose to investigate the banana.  I shared a play about how healthy bananas are for you, and I showed the class how to make banana ice cream using only bananas as the ingredient.  We also made banana fruit salad to try.  Everyone was so excited that they said they were going to teach their families how to make it too!

The Banana

Kim:  B!  A!  N!  A!  N!  A!  (shout to the tune of “Old MacDonald”)

Elizabeth:  Why do you like bananas so much?

Kim:  Because they are healthy for you.  (doing jumping jacks as she talks)

Sky:  Hi, guys!  (looking at Kim)  What are you doing, Kim?

Kim:  Telling Elizabeth how I love bananas so much.  (stopping jumping jacks)

Lexi: Well, let’s see what’s new on fruit.com on TV. (turning on TV)

News Reporter 1:  Hi. I know that last week we talked about peaches, but today we’re going on a sweet yellow adventure with the banana!

Kim:  Yes!  (grabbing a banana)

News Reporter 1:  Bananas are high in vitamin B6 and C.  So next time you have a banana that’s too sweet, what do you do?

News Reporter 2:  Throw it away?  Put peanut butter on it?

Katie:  Watching TV?  How about reading or eating?

News Reporter 2:  The better the banana, the better you are!  So keep up your food!

Sky:  Wow, I have an idea!  Let’s go get bananas right now!

Everyone:  Yeah!

Elizabeth:  Let’s go then.  (Turning around to go.  Everyone leaves stage but Kim.)

Kim:  Wait for me! (leaving stage)

Persuasive Family Adventure: Wells Beach

Have you ever been to Wells Beach?  I went there over spring break. It wasn’t what you would expect. The water is very cold. It’s still really fun though! Wells Beach has lots of sand, especially at low tide. You can go swimming too. The waves are so cool and refreshing. They’re really fun.

At low tide you can find millions of rocks on the beach. There are all different kinds of rocks. I even found a cool triangle rock!

Another thing I enjoyed at Wells Beach was exploring nature at the ocean. I discovered seaweed in the water and barnacles and moss on some rocks. There were also seagulls in the air and snails in the tidepools. My sister Bethany and I were splashing in a tide pool, and Bethany saved me from the tide coming in.

I am glad that I went to Wells Beach, Maine. You should go there too!

Brown

Brown.

Yes, brown.

Mud flowing through the creek

Under my feet.

Mud.

Yes, the mud sings out to God!

Slish, slosh, mud brown.

The feeling of spring!

Mud sticks to your feet.

Mud.

It’s sticky,

Slimy,

And of course,

Brown.

Glassmaker

IMG_1852

My trade is the glassmaker. Glassmaking was extremely important back in the 1700s and now. The glassmaker made glass stuff and windows, doors, and pots and pans. If a colonist needed a new pot or pan, they would go to a store to buy one or trade for one.
