Grantham Town History

The name of my town is Grantham.  The town was named this because Thomas Grantham in England gave land to someone, and they named it Grantham.  My town began in 1761.  Some things I know about those early years in my town are that the church was a schoolhouse.  Now my town is 254 years old.

My family came to Grantham in 2006.  My family has lived in this town for eight years.  I have seen these changes in my town while I have lived there.  They made South Cove a game house building.  Some ways I think my town might change in the next twenty years are that they might make a pet shop.

Austin Corbin was born and raised in Newport, NH.  He became rich through railroads and banking.  In 1890 he bought land in NH, to build a wild life preserve.  There was 2,700 acres of land in Newport, Grantham, Coydon, and Plainfield with 1,030 acres in Grantham.  Corbin wanted to save bison, so he brought some bison to the preserve.  There were elk, deer, wild boar, moose, and bison on the preserve.  The preserve is private now.
